João Seixas is Phd. in Urban Geography by the Autonomous University of Barcelona and in Sociology of the Territory and the Environment by the ISCTE in Lisbon. His thesis is concerned about the contemporary urban governance trends in the European cities, specifically focusing the case of the city of Lisbon. Economist (UCP Lisbon, 1989), Msc. in Urban and Regional Planning (London School of Economics and Political Science, 1997).

He has been professor and consultant, both coordinating and integrating several research projects (conceptual and applied), namely in the following dimensions:

• Contemporary tendencies in the political and social domains of cities and metropolises;
• Structures and dynamics of urban governance, of urban and territorial planning and regulation, logics and dynamics of urban and regional development;
• Paradigms of socio-economic and cultural development in the urban realms.

He has been publishing different works in these areas, in several publications. He also exercises diverse civic activity in the city governance, local development and cultural ambits.
